Description:

This series of fifteen informational posters communicates the primary recommendations from research on the environmental and structural issues impacting women with disabilities working in government during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the knowledge translation specialist, special attention was placed on converting key findings into a stylized, sharable, and digestible presentation using disability-centered approaches to color design. The content expands on what support systems should be in workplace settings and reaffirms best practices in improving accommodations and access.

The project was completed through a research assistantship funded by a UIC College of Applied Health Sciences Interdisciplinary Pilot Grant with the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs. It focused on the experiences of 31 women with disabilities working on local, state, and federal governmental levels. Knowledge translation was organized into three themes: Policy, Support Networks, and Inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Wrote titles, headings, and copy on each of the policy recommendation areas, condensing information from the full research brief.
  • Identified representative imagery, color profiles, and content layouts to effectively communicate intersectionality in the workplace.
  • Designed posters, social media, and built website for the project, utilizing adaptive methods for content dissemination.
  • Collaborated with a small team of researchers for quality assurance, but worked independently on the creative direction of the posters.
  • Created plain text documents with each stylized poster for access specific to the disability community.
