Description:

This conceptual project imagines redesigned public space influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic through the bisected reality of the Mexico-U.S. border cities, focusing on the adjacency, but separation in Mexicali, Baja California. Organic uses, such as congregation and placemaking, are designed alongside innovative and kinetic cross-border communication. The project seeks to provide a discourse for corrective public spaces that allow for togetherness for border communities, and utilizes cross-cultural references in planning and land use to achieve cohesion.

Responsibilities:

  • Researched land use, population density, border conditions, and COVID-19 public space projects in Mexicali, B.C., and Calexico, California.
  • Illustrated spatial planning skills in visualization, relational spaces, community placekeeping, and binational urbanism to create communicative public space.
  • Organized strategies according to longevity and relevancy for a post-pandemic city.
