Description:

This award-winning project brought public street activations to State Street in the Chicago Loop for over half a million attendees across eight distinct street festivals with live music, theatre, dance, dining, active recreation, and local vendors in the summer. The direct economic impact totaled over $12 million and brought over 400 vendors and performers to downtown. A big focus on diversity and equity initiatives, the majority of participants belonged to at least one minority categorization, and attendees from across the county and every Chicago zip code visited at least one event.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinated 400 participants and vendors, staff, and sponsors.
  • Managed a volunteer and staff team at each event date on site, responding to various event issues.
  • Led the design of the entire programmed area with a production team.
  • Conducted interviews with Spanish-language media Telemundo and Univision about participation and event planning.
  • Assisted in weekly press release writing with marketing team and organized communication across multiple actors.

Excerpt from the press release where Sundays on State was named the Best New Event of the Year.

“The Chicago Loop Alliance managed to provide a great reason to schlep downtown over the summer, introducing a series of events that shut down a large section of State Street and filled the pavement with a variety of vendors, performers and activities.”
